My Counseling Approach:
I take an integrative approach to therapy, drawing techniques from several different counseling theories that will work best depending on your personality, treatment goals, and preferences. This allows therapy to be more individualized, and incorporate your strengths into the counseling process.
Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT), both evidence-based, are a few of the approaches I often use. I also draw a lot from Person-Centered Therapy, providing a supportive and non-judgmental environment to process through problems at the client’s pace.
We will often set goals at the end of each session, and I will frequently recommend “homework” assignments for you to work on in between our sessions. This helps keep growth and positive change a priority outside of our brief time together each week. Homework may include practicing relaxation techniques, journaling on a particular prompt, reading an article or handout, or tracking your mood and thoughts, as a few examples.
